You also get a good selection of picture settings in addition to Brightness and Contrast, you can fine-tune colors using the Six-Axis Saturate and Hue settings and choose one of four color-temperature settings (Warm, Cool, sRGB, and User). The K272HUL has five picture modes (which Acer refers to as eColor Management): User, Standard, Movie, Graphics, and Eco. Missing is a USB hub, which is included on the ViewSonic VP2770-LED ( at Amazon) and BenQ BL2710PT ( at Amazon), as well as Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL)-compatible port like you get with the Acer FT200HQL ( at Amazon). The video ports are joined by an audio input for the embedded 2-watt speakers, which are loud, but could use a subwoofer to boost the base response. Around back is a generous array of video ports, including two HDMI inputs, a DVI input, a DisplayPort input, and a DisplayPort output, which can be used to daisy-chain multiple monitors. There are five function buttons and a power button on the right side of the lower bezel that are not labeled, but that's no problem, as the K272HUL uses on-screen labeling to tell you which buttons to press. It doesn't let you swivel, pivot, or adjust the panel height, but it does provide 25 degrees of tilt (five degrees forward, 20 degrees backward). Its glossy-black bezels are just under an inch thick (0.9 inch), and the matching round support base has a cheap plastic feel and is a bit wobbly.
Granted, it's not going to win any design awards, and it could use a few USB ports and a more comfortable stand, but it's still an exceptional value and is our newest Editors' Choice for midrange big-screen monitors. That's several hundred dollars less than any other 27-inch WQHD monitor we've tested to date.
